Public Announcement: Operations Update Effective December 4, 2007
November 1, 2007
Operations Update, December 4, 2007
Ottawa, November 1, 2007 - The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) revises its policies, rules, and procedures on a quarterly basis to respond to the demands of Registrants and potential Registrants, to better meet the needs of CIRA Certified Registrars, and to implement operational improvements.
Minor change to the Registrar agreement
An updated version of the "Registrar Agreement" becomes effective December 4, 2007. There is a very minor formatting change to the Registrar agreement. A label, under one of the lines where a CIRA representative signs the agreement, is deleted. There are no substantive changes to the document.
For more information, see the document “Registrar Agreement” (Version 1.7.1 - Effective Date: December 4, 2007), located at http://www.cira.ca/registrars-documents/.
Release of certain municipal domain names
Natural Resources Canada manages a database of official Geographic Names in Canada. CIRA will no longer reserve, for the exclusive use of municipalities, municipal names that have recently been removed from the “Canadian Geographical Names Data Base” (CGNDB). Certain municipal names have recently been added to the CGNDB and will, effective December 4, 2007, be reserved by CIRA for the exclusive use of the appropriate municipalities. The municipal names that will no longer be reserved by CIRA will be released for registration during the "To Be Released" (TBR) session on December 12, 2007. A tentative list of the names that may be released can be found at http://www.cira.ca/en/municipal-tbr_2007q4.html.
